Enthusiasts are treated to an array of sprint racing classes including open wheelers and sports cars of various engine capacities and age, as they hum around the timed 1000 meter circuit, leisurely winding their way around the houses and through the heart of Leyburn.
The Race itself, which forms the basis of the weekend activities, commemorates the running of the first Grand Prix in Queensland in 1949, held on the disused secret World War 2 RAAF Leyburn Airstrip, which attracted an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 people. The original circuit was utilized up until 1955. Access to most of the track is easy, and Pit Lane Area is open for spectators to walk through. The Drivers and Crews camp with their vehicles in Pit Lane.
